Meet Deanne Pickett and her Gorgeous 1963 Impala SS “Island Girl
By: Juanita Jimenez
A rich history and culture, pristine beaches, majestic mountains and adventure is where this story begins. Deanne’s “Island Girl” had been in Puerto Rico since 1970 a one owner vehicle she made her way to the Big Stage. Starring in a short role in the John Travolta’s action movie Speed Kills, you see this beautiful 1963 Impala SS sitting in the driveway in one of the scenes. If you look closely, you will see the autograph on her dash by the Star himself! Island Girl then made her way to Deanne in Aurora Colorado.
Deanne tells us “I fell in love with her from the moment she showed up at our house, I wanted to keep her as original as I could”. However, her husband had other plans. Not raised around lowriders, this way of life was new to Deanne. She tells us “ I like to say that the car found me and gave me the lowrider bug. But the friends that I have made and the appreciation for cars, the originality, the creative ideas of paint, interior etc has brought me into a whole new realm of life and I absolutely wouldn’t go back and change anything. I’ve only been doing this a little over a year now and it was not something I was raised around or knew anything about, but the best decision of my life.”
Deanne and her husband have his and hers 63’ Impalas and are members of Plata O Plomo CC Colorado. Deanne is inspired by every woman every day, “it’s hard being a female in a man’s world” she states. She loves seeing badass women doing their own thing in their own cars while holding it down at home too!
So if you’re ever in Colorado, be sure to look up Deanne and ask her to show you the famous “Island Girl”.
