We are usually caught up in the day-to-day aspects of life, and we forget about the most important things, the things that make us feel worthwhile. We need to slow down and take some time to reflect on our life to create a better sense of who we are, what we want to be, and how to get there.  Diane Ortega grew up in the streets of SCLA. She states, “My love for lowriding came at a young age, my mother used to drive a 1964 Impala SS, so growing up, that was my favorite car.  Diane told us that she is inspired by her mother Elida aka Lita. Her mother showed her how to take care of her cars and to always keep it clean especially the whitewalls. But most of all Ms. Elida instilled in Diane that "the car you drive is a reflection of you!”.  Diane states that she learned how to hit the switches by her childhood friend's brother Beto. Although Diane was too young to drive, she was his shotgun rider. The adrenaline she would get made her always want a lowrider.  Diane told us “Ladyz have gone a long way in lowriding. I remember it always being a male dominant hobby from the early 70’s to about 2015 Lowrider Magazine didn't have to many female riders. I used to hit the switches on Whittier Blvd. and not having too many other lady riders out there. How times have changed! It’s a good thing to have a beautiful car with a beautiful female behind it. I hope that I am someone's inspiration. Whatever you drive make it a reflection of you. I’m not out there to compete with anyone but myself. Never give up!”  So next time you see Diane or another lady lowrider, slow down and reflect the time, details and pride that lady lowriders have instilled on the lowriding community.
