Ever since I was a little girl I've always loved cars. I remember waking up one Christmas and seeing my first car. It was a plastic pedal car but none the less it was a car and it was mine. My father had all the Impalas, a 58' convertible, 57' hardtop, 65' SS and more... My uncle had a lowered 1952 Ford truck that was painted a deep purple and my other uncle a 72' Monte Carlo. When I was 12 years old my older cousin took me cruising in her 1970 Mercury Cougar, we would drive up and down the small streets of Alamosa, Colorado the radio blaring and the wind in my hair, the lowriders, the freedom I felt. I knew right then I was going to get a lowrider no matter what it took.
When I turned 16 my parents purchased a 1976 Cutlass Supreme in which I worked on and worked on. At that age, I could not afford hydraulics so I had a friend cut the springs and we would put weight in the trunk to get it as low as we could. I sanded it down then took it to "Earl Scheib" back in the day that was the home of the $99 paint job, they even put a red flake in for me. I had it on a set of supreme wheels with 13's. We then would cruise 38th Avenue with the old G's like Chris Abeyta, and Sam Henry those were the days. As most women know, we end up having kids and starting families.
I got away from lowriding for a bit, but continued to keep in touch with my lowrider family and attend shows as a spectator. A few years went by, I missed lowriding so much that I purchased a 1948 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery "La Azteca". She was a solid car, but needed some work.
Unfortunately, about a year after I purchased it, I backed into a truck and had to repair the rear quarter panel. It was at this time that I decided that I was going to take her all the way down to the metal and "do it right" this time. I have to give credit to Noe Vivar and his brother at Vivar Brothers and to Cain Jimenez at Jimenez Brothers Customs. Vivar Brothers did the majority of the body work and paint, the suspension was purchased from Jimenez Brothers. My younger brother Joe Salazar did all the modifications. It took about 3 years to get her up and running. Since, I've learned how to do the majority of repairs myself, and now anytime something breaks, or gets scratched I'm able to fix it.
I also have a 1976 Cutlass Supreme that is very special to me, this was my brothers car. It has a 70ish era paint job the interior has swivel bucket seats and the motor is original. My brother did a total re-build on this one. Lowriding is my passion, a way of life. I hope to bring ladies of all ages together to keep this movement alive.
